DETROIT – State Representative Bert Johnson (D-Detroit) will hold his second annual State of the Community Address on Monday, June 1, in Detroit. He will be joined by other state and local leaders to address the concerns of citizens in Detroit, Highland Park and Hamtramck.
"My first State of the Community Address last year set the tone going forward," Johnson said. "I want to continue to keep our citizens informed of what's truly happening in their state government."
Topics to be discussed include state budget cuts and deficits, education reform, insurance rates, municipal revenue sharing, consumer protections, health care and other issues of importance to residents.
Some officials slated to join Johnson include: State Representatives Fred Durhal, Marie Donigan, Rashida Tlaib and Tim Melton; State Senator Martha G. Scott; Kimberly Trent, Director of the Governor's Office for Southeast Michigan and Melvin "Butch" Hollowell, the Governor-appointed Insurance Consumer Advocate for Michigan.
The address will take place June 1, at 6 p.m. in the sanctuary of Second Ebenezer Church, located at 14601 Dequindre Road, in Detroit.
"I'm pleased to have so many of my colleagues joining me for this event," Johnson said. "The Detroit Delegation and the Governor's office clearly recognize the need to keep the public in the loop, especially during these tumultuous times for our city and our state."
